Kids Tent
Many people have found childhood memories of pitching a tent out in the back yard. Usually they were just an old
sheet mom had, and it was thrown over a clothes line, tied to trees. Along with that were a flashlight, junk food,
and a very vivid imagination. Or they would go down the street to a friend’s house and sleep in their tent.
Sometimes if they were lucky, they actually had a real honest to goodness tent, usually green in color. It would
have a door you could zip up and keep mom and dad out, but more important kid sisters or brothers.
Gone is the ugly green tent, a kids tent now comes in an array of different types, styles and colors. They can
be designed to look like a child’s favorite cartoon, movie hero or even their favorite toy. There is even a kids
tent that is shaped like a castle, a circus tent or even a real cool space ship. Remember when buying a kids tent,
get one that is appropriate for the child’s age and be aware of the safety regulations.
In buying a kids tent, check for the structure that is the poles; if they have been treated for rust and wear
and tear. The fabric of the tent should be made of fire resistant, waterproof and have a UV resistant material. A
kids tent should have good ventilation. There is a low-high door vent that allows the air out and in. if
backpacking with kids there is a kids tent that is very lightweight and the child can carry it in their backpack.
They can go from a three season to a four season in minutes. Even the child can pitch it. Some also have a
freestanding hub pole system that one person can set up.
Many a kids’ tent can be used indoors as a play area and a sleep area. Children really enjoy being able to sleep
in a ‘tent’ and it could cut down on the temper tantrums before going to bed. These just might cut that out
entirely.
There are also a kids tent that are see through. Ones that are pitched inside the home. Some will insist it be
in their bedroom, others like them in the living room, so they can watch television and still be camping. What
little boy would not love to have his own hunting tent, right in his backyard? They are a little taller than the
normal size kids tent, but he will have hours of fun pretending to hunt.
If using a kids tent outside never put it away wet. That could and probably will cause fungus and will damage
the tent. Store the kids tent in a cool dry place, as sometimes a high heat will break up the fabric coatings. Do
not fold up the kids tent with the same folds as before. Try folding it differently being sure that it still fits
in the sack.
If the poles of the kids tent were exposed to salt air, be sure to wash them down and air dry them before
packing them away. Clean the tent well. Dirt will cause damage to the fabric and the seams, causing it to wear out
quicker.
